Testele au fost efectuate pe un esantion de 25 de barbati si 25 de femei, dupa ce acestia au petrecut 15 minute in sauna sau facand exercitii fizice. Dupa colectarea si analizarea mostrelor, echipa a concluzionat ca cele prelevate de la femei contineau cantitati ridicate de compusi cu sulf, fara miros. Amestecate cu bacteriile care se afla in mod obisnuit in zona axilei, rezulta o noua substanta numita tiol, cunoscuta pentru mirosul ei asemanator cu ceapa. Acelasi studiu a revelat ca barbatii transpira in alt mod. In prima faza, au fost identificate cantitati mari de de acid gras, care elibereaza un miros asemanator branzei, in momentul in care este expusa enzimelor care creeaza bacterii. Rezultatele studiului vor fi folosite pentru a crea deodorante specifice nevoilor fiecarui sex, insa nu toti cercetatorii sunt convinsi de exactitatea datelor. Acestia sustin faptul ca mirosul corporal este influentat de zona geografica si de dieta, deci este foarte posibil ca studiul sa nu fie valabil pentru toata populatia globului.

Very Large Telescope (VLT), telescopul european situat in Anzii chilieni s-a imbogatit cu primul sau instrument de ultima generatie. Este vorba despre “X-shooter”, spectrograful capabil sa stranga si sa analizeze intregul spectru al luminii provenite de la corpurile celeste cele mai indepartate, de la cea ultravioleta la infrarosu. Acest instrument a fost construit in doar cinci ani, gratie colaborarii cercetatorilor de la 11 institute astronomice din Danemarca, Franta, Italia, Olanda, alaturi de cei de la ESO (European Southern Observatory). Noua aparatura filtreaza si imparte lumina in trei trasee optice: unul ultraviolet, altul vizibil si cel de-al treilea infrarosu, analizand simultan aceste spectre in vederea strangerii de informatii cu privire la formarea si dezvoltarea stelelor si a galaxiilor. Il nuovo apparecchio filtra e divide la luce in tre percorsi ottici: uno ultravioletto, l’altro visibile e il terzo infrarosso, e analizza simultaneamente questi spettri. Questa analisi permette di raccogliere informazioni sulla formazione e lo sviluppo delle stelle e delle galassie. “Finora erano necessari più strumenti installati su telescopi differenti e osservazioni multiple per coprire un intervallo di lunghezze d’onda così ampio, con grossi problemi dovuti al confronto dei dati che potevano essere stati presi in tempi diversi e con differenti condizioni atmosferiche”, ha sottolineato Sandro D’Odorico, coordinatore del team europeo che ha costruito l’apparecchio. X-shooter, invece, elimina questi inconvenienti, garantendo qualità e completezza dell’informazione con un tempo di osservazione minore. “X-shooter”, è stato istallato sul VLT a fine 2008 e ha iniziato le sue osservazioni lo scorso 14 marzo, registrando diversi spettri completi di stelle, di quasar e galassie distanti, delle nebulose associate alla stella Eta Carinae e alla Supernova 1987 A. La comunità astronomica internazionale potrà utilizzare “X-shooter” a partire dal prossimo ottobre e sono già oltre 150 le richieste di osservazioni pervenute all’Eso. “Ci attendiamo un salto di qualità nella comprensione di una grande varietà di fenomeni, dalla formazione delle nane brune fino ai meccanismi che hanno prodotto le galassie più massicce dell’universo primordiale e ai lampi di raggi gamma”, osserva invece Sofia Randich, dell’Inaf-Osservatorio di Astrofisica di Arcetri. Con “X-shooter”, infatti, sarà possibile indagare la radiazione delle sorgenti cosmiche di cui non si conosce la natura. I ricercatori italiani, grazie al significativo contributo dell'Inaf (Istituto nazionale di Astrofisica) e gli osservatori di Brera, Trieste, Palermo e Catania alla realizzazione del progetto, potranno presto sperimentarne le capacità in 46 notti di osservazione. Aceste proiectile luminoase au ca scop derutarea radarelor care vad o tinta confuza injurul unui avion care poate penetra astfel supravegherea radar. Explicatiile nu au convins pe nimeni, mai ales ca nava militara era echipata cu radare de ultima generatie care pot face diferenta intre orice fel de obiecte zburatoare.
