Directorul, Mark Jamieson (care nu stia nimic despre varsta autoarei lucrarilor) a fost incantat de picturile abstracte pe care le vazuse si a acceptat sa le expuna in galeria sa, in cadrul unei expozitii de grup. Imagini ale picturilor Aelitei au aparut pe materialele promotionale ale expozitiei, care au fost raspandite pretutindeni, dupa care Mark Jamieson a aflat, in fine cine era artista ale carei lucrari ii placusera atat de mult: o fetita in varsta de doi ani. Din acest motiv, Air Force amana de trei ani incoace lansarea unei noi serii de sateliti, programata acum sa aiba loc in noiembrie 2009. Dificultatile financiare prin care trece reteaua de sateliti americana ar putea da insa o sansa sistemelor alternative: proiectului Galileo al Uniunii Europene, programat sa fie lansat anul viitor, Compass-ului lansat deja de China, unuia pus la punct de indieni sau satelitilor rusesti Glonass 2010: la crisi del Gps Per mancanza di fondi, il sistema di navigazione satellitare potrebbe non garantire il suo servizio MILANO – L’anno prossimo potrebbe finire un’era, quella del Gps, il Global Positionning System che regola e alimenta le mappe a disposizione sui nostri telefonini e i navigatori satellitari nelle nostre automobili, ma soprattutto che è la base per software di ogni genere, dando linfa a una fetta importante dell’industria hi-tech. L’allarme è stato lanciato dal Gao (Government Accountability Office), la Corte dei Conti statunitense impegnata a controllare le spese pubbliche, in uno studio appena reso noto. Il problema sarebbe di denaro: l’Air Force, che gestisce i satelliti, non è riuscita a contenere i costi e avrebbe superato così il suo budget inizialmente fissato a 870 milioni di dollari. I RITARDI – Per questo motivo, l’Air Force ha dovuto rimandare il lancio di una nuova serie di satelliti, a oggi posticipato a novembre 2009. Ma se gli obiettivi di spesa non verranno mantenuti, il rischio è che a partire dal 2010 (ovvero quando i primi satelliti avranno bisogno di cure e manutenzioni) il numero di satelliti a disposizione per garantire il servizio sia più basso e dunque non possa essere garantita una copertura di qualità. Copertura che in questo momento è garantita da 31 satelliti (di cui 28 in funzione, mentre 3 pronti a intervenire in caso di guasti) ordinati in gruppi di quattro. Lanciati nello spazio da molti anni, hanno perfezionato la loro funzione di geolocalizzazione fino ad arrivare a compiere errori per un massimo di 10 metri. Un buon risultato soprattutto ora che anche sugli smartphone i sistemi satellitari stanno prendendo piede con le nuove funzionalità per i pedoni. CONCORRENZA – Anche se l’allarme di una interruzione totale del servizio Gps americano al momento sembra abbastanza remoto, la notizia ha presto fatto il giro del mondo per via di tutto l’indotto hi-tech coinvolto nella produzione e commercializzazione di hardware e software che si basa sul Gps. Dalla cartografia, ai cellulari di ultima generazione, agli apparecchi da sistemare in auto, ai servizi come le guide turistiche interattive, le aziende interessate sono davvero molte. Una défaillance del Global Positionning System potrebbe invece dar speranze ai sistemi alternativi, come l’europeo Galileo ancora in alto mare, o il progetto Compass lanciato dalla Cina, o ancora l’alternativa indiana e i satelliti russi Glonass.
